ANKARA, -A Turkish Airlines airliner carrying 114 passengers was forced to make an emergency landing after an engine fire caused by lightning. The aircraft was on a flight from Istanbul to Izmir, and was struck by lightning while trying to land on Thursday evening.
AP news agency on Friday (25/01/2013), citing the Turkish Airlines explained, the plane prepared to land in Izmir after flying from Istanbul. At that moment, lightning struck the aircraft that caused one of the engines caught fire. The plane made an emergency landing. Not explained this ill-fated aircraft.
Parties Turkish Airlines confirmed that one of the engines caught fire, the pilot immediately activate the automatic fire extinguisher on the machine, and make a successful emergency landing.
According to Turkish Airlines, nobody passengers injured in this incident. An amateur video camera on the runway to take pictures and NTV television broadcast mempelihatkan the flame from the engine plane on a dark night.
Anadolu news agency reported, residents in Izmir who saw the fire from the burning engine immediately rushed to the city's airport to see the further development of the plane.
